Who am I?...
In order to make changes to your life and perhaps your body, it is important to know who you are.
You are not your body, thoughts or emotions – you are that which is aware of these things.
Often people say ‘My mind is driving me crazy’ or ‘My body is not as young as it used to be’ or ‘my emotions are all over the place at the moment’. So who is the ‘My’ being addressed?
The premise that we are going to work with, which is backed up by many ancient text is: We are that which does not change, that is one with all creation and source itself. There is no way to prove this so we are just going to use this perspective for greater peace and for co-creating with less or no fear. When you feel like changing is going to change who you are, this thought brings about fear and often triggers subconscious sabotage patterns. When you feel separate and small, big changes can also seem very hard or impossible or overwhelming. When you are part of the whole playing your part, with the support of the universe, things seem less scary.
What most people identify themselves with is the individual self, body and mind, with all of the conditioning that made you who you are and how you think, feel and act. Most of these things came about from other people’s ideas of what life is all about, how you should act, be, think etc.
It depends on:
-
where you were born,
-
at what time in history,
-
which religion,
-
which class of society,
-
family dynamics and all you experienced,
-
how others responded to you and your environment
-
your DNA
-
generational trauma, mindsets, rules etc
-
And
-
how you interpreted what you experienced
All of these things and more have a strong influence on who you are as an individual.
We call all of this your conditioning.
So dependant on the inputs (your environment, 5 sense perception), how your distort, delete and generalise all of that input (based on your conditioning), determines how you respond (output).
Just like a computer, you don’t blame the computer (well we sometime shout at them)! We know that if we type in content to the computer, it uses all of the programs within it to process the input. This is then displayed on the screen or printed out. The computer itself has no control of this, it is innocent. With this in mind so are you! That doesn’t mean you may be held accountable for your actions and behaviour, but it does not mean you are ultimately responsible or guilty.
Accepting What Is
With that in mind, we think that people can control their responses, but until you become conscious and present, which at least 95% of the time, most people are not, we respond automatically, based on what worked best in the past to keep us safe. So when we or others don’t respond how we want them to we judge. When you judge, at some level you will always suffer. If you don’t believe me, think of something or someone in a judgemental way and take notice of how you feel inside….At a deep level, we know that we are all one, so when we judge anyone, we are really judging ourselves. This leads to feels of guilt, shame, inadequacy etc.
The good news is we can upgrade the operating system, without having to do years of therapy to relive all the things that have happened to us and to figure out why our life is how it is. By recognising that everyone is doing the best they can with the programming/ conditioning that they have up to this point, allow you to be compassionate rather than judgemental. This can take quite a bit of getting used to, but it is worth it! How we feel is integral in how we respond to life and what we create in our life. (We go into much greater detail around this subject in the course on manifesting). As far as it relates to stress level and our pain/health, simply knowing that being compassionate rather judgemental changes our emotional state is suffice.
When you accept what is, it does not necessarily mean what is happening is ok. It does not mean that you put up with behaviour that is inappropriate or violent etc. What it does mean is that you don’t resist what is happening, you respond as needed, without making the person bad or wrong, just the behaviour and don’t hold onto negative emotions invoked.
When we hold onto negative thoughts and think about events and people and ourselves over and over we keep reinfecting ourselves with the emotions. Our subconscious listens to the loudest, strongest and most repetitive instructions and gives us experiences/thoughts etc in alignment with this. EG have you ever noticed when you are feeling angry or impatient, that you seem to get twice as many red lights than normal? Studies have shown that when you are smiling, the people around you look more attractive and respond to you in more pleasant ways etc. When you are feeling negative, more negative things tend to happen as well as decreasing your immune system and all the other symptoms of stress mentioned already.
Judgement simply is not worth it!
